In 1998 I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Sam Houston State
University. I also received my Master of Arts degree in Professional Development
(2004) and a second Master of Arts degree in Counseling (2007) from Amberton
University. My diverse work experiences range from working with many types of
animals, Alzheimer patients, as a police/fire dispatcher, and as a victim's advocate.
I am now an LPC intern and am working under the supervision of Dan Kirkland, LPC. I
have completed all required classroom curriculum and have passed the Texas State Board
of Examiners of Professional Counselors exam as well as the Texas Jurisprudence exam.
During my counseling practicum classes I gained experience working with adolescents
and their parents through psychoeducational programs in group and individual family
sessions.
For a good therapeutic relationship to form, I feel that a client will benefit most by
bringing their issues or problems to their session with an open mind and a willingness to
grow throughout the counseling process. My job is to help clients grow to reach their full
potential by helping them determine what their goals are and educating them on how to
achieve those goals.
My personal interests include spending time on my small hobby farm with my family and
pets, which include a border collie, 2 Siamese cats, 2 parrots, a donkey, and a small herd
of horses, which seems to steadily increase in size. My future goals as a therapist include
Pet Therapy and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, which will blend my love of animals
and my desire to help people.
I look forward to working with you!
