Equine
Therapy
Horses
accept people just the way that they are. They are non-judgmental, accepting,
and are willing to have a relationship with humans. They don’t reject
anyone. Isn’t that the way wish all people reacted to us?
Our
herd of therapy horses assists children and adults to accept others and
themselves, connect with a power greater than them, and learn what it
is like to truly connect in a relationship. Horses help create joyful
expressions on the face of a child, rejected by his peers for being different.
Our
equine therapy groups for children and for adults can help with self-esteem,
self-awareness, and self-control. Groups form several times during the
year. Some groups consist of one full day of equine assisted therapy,
and others meet weekly for 90 minutes on a short-term basis.
Our
horses can also used to bring joy to nursing home patients, classroom
students, and children in mental health facilities. Watch for Glory, Grace,
Dolly and Cora in local parades, school field days, and civic events!
Call today to inquire about the horse assisted therapy groups, and about
one of the miniature horses visiting your school.
GRACE:

Grace is registered in the American Miniature Horse Association. She was
born in March 2003 and is approximately 28 inches tall and weighs around
175 pounds. Grace was far more expensive than our program could afford,
but due to the benevolence of Mrs. Esther Verdin of Plano, Texas, we were
able to add Grace to our herd of therapy horses. She is a beautiful black
and white Tobiano Paint with flowing white and black mane and tail. She
loves to run and play with her friends Cora, Dolly, and Glory.
GLORY:
Glory is a purebred miniature horse registered with
the American Miniature Horse Association, and the American Miniature Horse
Club. She is gray, brown, and black, depending on the time of year. She
was born in July 2002. She is approximately 30 inches tall and weighs
around 150 pounds. She loves to be rubbed, taken on long walks, and driven
from behind as if pulling a cart. Her favorite place to be is beside her
friend, Grace. [THE STORY OF GLORY]
CORA:
Cora is 12 year-old registered American Quarter Horse. She is red with
white socks and stockings and a wide blaze on her face. She weighs over
1100 pounds
and is 66 inches tall at the withers. She is the granddaughter of a world
famous racehorse, Dash for Cash. She began race training as a youngster
but did not make the grade. She was then sold as a brood mare-to raises
babies each year the rest of her life. When her owner discovered that
she could not bear a foal she was sold. A very nice man bought Cora, trained
her very well, and sold her to Dan Kirkland in 2001. Since that time Cora
has been utilized as a therapy horse, and trained for crowd control and
trail riding. She loves to have her face rubbed, and to have her bottom
scratched. She also enjoys very long trail rides.
DOLLY:
Dolly is an 800 pound black quarter horse mare. She is very gentle, easy
to ride, and loves children. She has lived on the family farm in East
Texas for several years before we added her to our therapy herd in 2004.
She loves people and is endlessly patient.
